Stay in a true piece of Maine history at the Admiral Peary Inn, a remarkable 5,000-square-foot historic home in the heart of Fryeburg. Built in 1865, the property was once the residence of famed Arctic explorer Admiral Robert E. Peary, who lived here from 1877 to 1881. Peary is best known for his legendary 1909 Arctic expedition, during which he claimed to have become the first person to reach the geographic North Pole. Today, the entire inn is yours to enjoy, offering 7 bedrooms, 11 beds, and 8 bathrooms, with plenty of space for families, friends, reunions, wedding groups, and memorable White Mountain getaways.
The home proudly maintains its historic New England character, with vintage details, distinctive rooms, and a sense of charm that simply cannot be recreated in a newer property. It has been thoughtfully maintained and well cared for while still preserving the personality and history that make it so unique.
With approximately 5,000 square feet of interior space, there is plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Multiple living and sitting areas throughout the home make it easy for a large group to gather together while still offering quieter spaces to relax, read, or enjoy some time apart.
At the heart of the home is a large, fully equipped kitchen with everything your group needs to prepare breakfasts, family dinners, and meals together throughout your stay. The home also features a charming enclosed porch, perfect for morning coffee, conversation, or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
Outside, guests can step onto the spacious deck or enjoy the expansive grassy backyard, with plenty of room to relax, play, and enjoy Maine’s beautiful seasons. The property also offers plenty of on-site parking, making it especially convenient for larger groups traveling with multiple vehicles.
Despite its peaceful residential setting, the home is within walking distance of downtown Fryeburg, making it easy to explore the village without getting in the car. North Conway, the Saco River, hiking, skiing, and the many attractions of the Mount Washington Valley are all just a short drive away.
The Admiral Peary Inn is more than simply a place to stay. It is an opportunity to sleep beneath the same roof once called home by one of America’s most famous Arctic explorers, while gathering with family and friends in a property filled with more than 160 years of Maine history.
Professionally managed by Birch Hospitality, guests can expect a professionally cleaned and prepared home, responsive local support, and the high standards that come with a Birch stay.
