The Space: An Authentic Blue Ridge Experience
Tucked beside the rushing Elk River, this hand-hewn 1884 log cabin offers a rare blend of historic preservation and modern luxury. Whether you're visiting for a winter ski trip or a summer river escape, this is the quintessential North Carolina mountain retreat.
Cabin Highlights:
Riverside Living: Unwind in the private hot tub or gather around the fire pit directly overlooking the water.
Skier’s Paradise: Located directly off Tynecastle Hwy for easy, reliable access to Sugar Mountain Resort (5 mins) and Beech Mountain (12 mins).
Luxury Interiors: Featuring a King primary suite, radiant floor heating, plush linens, and premium Public Goods toiletries.
Remote Work Ready: Equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi and a Smart TV for seamless "work from the mountains" stays.
Winter Access & Safety:
While our road is a primary route and regularly plowed by the state, 4WD or AWD is strictly required during active snowfall to ensure your safety in the High Country terrain.
Historic Note:
To preserve the original 1884 logs, the cabin does not have central AC. However, at an elevation of 4,000+ feet, the crisp mountain air and our provided fans keep the cabin refreshingly cool all summer long.
As a guest, you can enjoy access to the whole cabin, including the hot tub, the fire pit, the spacious living area, the indoor fireplace, high-speed WiFi, and a flat-screen TV.
The smart lock makes it easy to check in!
We have a fantastic team in place to provide our guests with individual attention should they need it.
This Old River Cabin is located in one of Banner Elk’s most peaceful and desirable areas, perfectly positioned for easy access to Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain, and the best of the High Country. The cabin sits just off a well-maintained main road, making travel simple year-round, while the final short road to the property is unplowed in winter—so we recommend 4×4 or AWD vehicles from November through March.
Guests love this neighborhood for its quiet, wooded setting and the soothing sound of the Elk River, which runs just steps from the cabin. It feels private and secluded, yet you’re only minutes from top attractions: 3 minutes to Sugar Mountain skiing, 8 minutes to downtown Banner Elk, and close to hiking trails, wineries, restaurants, tubing, and local markets.
The area is perfect for travelers who want a true mountain retreat with quick access to everything—skiing, snowboarding, hiking, dining, and small-town charm. Roads are easy to navigate, the surroundings are beautiful in every season, and the convenient location makes it an ideal home base for exploring Banner Elk and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains.
You will need a 4x4 vehicle in the winter months. There is parking for up to two vehicles in front of the home.
