  • Neighborhood

San Andrés, a charming fishing village located in the northeast of Tenerife, near Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is known for its tranquil atmosphere, rich history and proximity to one of the island's most famous beaches. Here are some ideas of what to do in San Andrés: 1. Enjoy Las Teresitas Beach Las Teresitas Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Tenerife, with its fine golden sand brought from the Sahara and its calm, crystal-clear waters. It’s perfect for a day of swimming, sunbathing, or enjoying water sports like paddleboarding or kayaking. The beach offers facilities such as showers, sun loungers, and nearby restaurants, making it ideal for both families and those looking to relax. 2. Stroll through the village of San Andrés Explore the charming streets of San Andrés, where you’ll find traditional Canarian houses, many with colorful facades and classic architecture. The village’s central square is a peaceful spot to sit and soak up the local atmosphere. 3. Visit the Castle of San Andrés The Castle of San Andrés is a small fortification built in the 16th century to defend the coast from pirate attacks. Although now in ruins, it remains an important historical site and a great stop for history lovers. From the castle, you can enjoy stunning views of the coastline. 4. Taste the local cuisine San Andrés is well known for its traditional Canarian food, especially fresh seafood and fish dishes. Enjoy a seaside lunch or dinner at one of the local restaurants. Some typical dishes to try include grilled limpets, calamari, and “papas arrugadas” with mojo sauce. 5. Hiking in Anaga Rural Park San Andrés is located at the entrance of the breathtaking Anaga Rural Park, one of the most spectacular natural areas in Tenerife. The park offers a vast network of hiking trails through laurel forests, mountains, and ravines. Routes such as the trail from San Andrés to Montaña de los Campanarios or those crossing the Anaga Forest House offer amazing views of the coast and the mountainous interior. Perfect for nature and hiking lovers. 6. Explore nearby beaches Besides Las Teresitas, there are other less crowded beaches nearby worth visiting. Playa de Las Gaviotas, for example, is a small black-sand cove surrounded by cliffs. Though more rustic and less known than Las Teresitas, it’s perfect for those seeking peace and quiet. 7. Boat excursions From San Andrés or Santa Cruz, you can arrange boat trips to explore the coast. If you're lucky, you might spot dolphins or even whales, as the waters around Tenerife are known for their rich marine biodiversity. 8. Visit the César Manrique Maritime Park Though not located in San Andrés, the César Manrique Maritime Park in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is nearby and a great option if you’re looking to relax in open-air saltwater pools in a space designed by the famous Canarian architect César Manrique. 9. Explore Santa Cruz de Tenerife San Andrés is very close to Santa Cruz, the island’s capital, where you can enjoy cultural activities, visit museums like the Museum of Nature and Archaeology, or go shopping in the city center. The Tenerife Auditorium, designed by Santiago Calatrava, is another must-see for lovers of modern architecture.
