    Check the batteries in your remotes and detectors regularly. Update or replace broken fixtures. I know it's not common to be cold in the area, but maybe provide a dehumidifier to ease the cold dampness or provide a heat source.

    We had no hot water 3 mornings in a row. The room was cold and damp. The battery in the smoke detector died and was chirping constantly. The shower head broke, glass globe over the light fixture was broken, the freezer handle was broken, and the glass on the dresser was cracked.
