Location
The town of San Pietro in Bevangna has a long, sandy beach, with crystal clear sea. It has a long, sandy beach and the sea is so clear that when the waters are calm you can see the 23 marble Greek sarcophagi that sunk off the coast in the 3rd century AD. The centre of the town, which has many bars and restaurants, is just a 5-minute drive.
The ancient town of Manduria (15 minutes) makes a great day out. Dating back to before 350BCE, the town has belonged to the ancient Greeks, Romans, Saracens and Normans. Its winding lanes and Baroque piazza show its fascinating history.
The neighbouring resort of Porto Cesareo (30 minutes) also has beautiful beaches and lively nightlife. The town’s weekly market (Thursday) is the best place to find the finest local food, including olive oil and a variety of cheeses.
The closest airport is at Brindisi, 1 hour 10 minutes away by car.
