We booked a short girls' reading weekend. The place was secluded but easy to find, and just the right size for three of us. We've stayed at another of Dana's properties last year and that was also lovely.

From May to October, our four kayaks and canoe are ready for your next adventure. Paddles and life jackets are provided on-site. Launching from the waterside kayak dock is a breeze—so you can start exploring the harbor in no time!
The evening ends here — firewood provided, harbor just beyond the yard, and a sky full of stars if you stay long enough. Nobody goes inside early.

The driveway pulls you in and the cottage waits at the end — fire pit chairs already visible, Sawyer Harbor just past them. This is what a Door County arrival should feel like.
Step into the screened porch and the stone fireplace is already glowing through the door. Bluetooth speaker on the shelf, seating for the group, and the yard right outside. The in-between place everyone ends up.
The sign above the door says 'come sit on the porch' — it's not wrong. The sectional fits the group, the windows bring in the trees, and there's no good reason to leave once you're settled.
It's far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Door County but close enough to enjoy it all. We took the kayaks out, the water is shallow but we were still able to get out there and enjoy the water. Beds were comfortable!
A dedicated coffee setup with a Cuisinart brewer and shelves of mugs — because the best Door County mornings start before you've said a word to anyone. This is where that happens.
The great room connects everything — sofa, staircase to the loft, kitchen around the corner, and the harbor through the windows. One open floor plan, ten guests, and nowhere to feel crowded.
The main floor king bedroom is where the sign above the bed says 'Stay Awhile' — and for once, you might actually take the advice. Quiet, private, and the first real sleep you've had in weeks.
The main floor king bedroom has a desk by the window that looks out over the yard toward Sawyer Harbor. Technically a workspace. Realistically, the best seat in the cottage for a slow morning.
Rinse off after a day on Sawyer Harbor — the walk-in shower is stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, and fresh towels are stacked right outside on the built-in shelf.
In fact, you don’t even need to bring your toothbrush. We keep extra amenities on hand in case you forget.
Two bathrooms means the whole group isn't rotating through one shower. The second bath has a tub/shower combo and the same curated amenities — no second-class bathrooms at Sawyer Harbor Retreat.
This place was a dream! Dana was very helpful in informing us of local activities and neat places to see. The beds were super comfortable and the kitchen was wonderful! We were in town for a wedding and felt right at home.
The master bathroom is located right en suite. We’ve filled each room with special touches, like extra toothbrushes, just in case you had to pack in a rush and forgot your own.
We have taken care of every detail and always keep some extras on hand, so you can spend time on the more important things, like making memories with the ones you love!
After a full day on the water, this is where you land. Queen bed, quiet corner of the cottage, ceiling fan, natural light. No complaints from anyone who's slept here.

The kids discovered this space five minutes after arrival and didn't come down until dinner. Two queens, a futon, games, and books — it sleeps six and feels like their own world up here.

Sawyer Harbor Retreat is the perfect cottage for a Door County vacation. The south-facing windows give a beautiful view of the harbor and the large patio is perfect for relaxing under the umbrella.
The screened-in sun porch is one our favorite rooms at the cottage. It's like an outdoor (ish) living room! It's great for cool mornings or quiet evenings.
Open plan from front door to back windows — you never lose sight of the harbor from the main floor, whether you're cooking, eating, or just standing there with a coffee.
The loft is where groups spread out — two queens, a queen futon, and enough floor for sleeping bags if someone really commits to staying. The kids usually claim it first.
This year the water levels are lower than they have been in past years, but there is still good access for kayaks and canoes.
