About this property

Whispering Pines is where you disappear into 12 acres of private forest in Durango and forget the rest of the world exists.

This 5,000 square foot estate sleeps 20 people across seven bedrooms, each with its own TV and streaming setup powered by Starlink internet. No fighting over the remote during chill time. Everyone gets their own screen.

The wraparound deck is massive. You'll find yourself out there more than inside, especially when you're soaking in the 8 person hot tub overlooking three acres of manicured lawn. Beyond that, nothing but pine trees and the sounds of any wildlife passing through.

Inside, the theater room has a 150 inch projection screen and Xbox gaming. The leather recliners are the kind you sink into and don't want to leave. The whole home audio system means your playlist follows you from room to room.

The chef's kitchen is legit. Six burner stove with griddle, two separate ovens, oversized Sub Zero refrigerator, and every tool you need already there. Cutco knives, high end silverware, air fryer, Instant Pot, oversized crockpot, the works. Sixteen places to sit for meals, split between inside and the deck.

For kids, there's a fantasy princess spot and a wildlife cubby. Outside, there's a giant treehouse with its own flat screen TV and Xbox, plus two axe throwing targets and two fire pits.

The master suite is its own retreat. Jetted tub big enough for two people, walk in shower with seven spray heads, private access to the hot tub right outside. In floor heating throughout the house means you'll walk around barefoot even in winter, watching the flames in the oversized wood burning fireplace.

The property is wheelchair accessible with oversized doors in the master bedroom and bathroom. Everything you need is on the main level, including the laundry room stocked with detergent, bleach, and fabric softener.

Where You Are

Whispering Pines sits in the Pine River Valley outside Bayfield, in Durango, Colorado's backyard. National forest at your doorstep; town when you want it.

Vallecito Lake: 10 minutes
Bayfield: 12 minutes

Durango La Plata County Airport (DRO): 30 minutes
Lemon Reservoir: 25 minutes
Purgatory Resort: 70 minutes

Mesa Verde National Park: 1 hour 20 minutes

What to Do While You're Here

Vallecito Lake is your closest playground: trout fishing, boating, kayaking, and paddleboard rentals, ten minutes from your door. The Pine River and Lemon Reservoir round out the fishing options.

In Durango, raft the Animas River whitewater right through downtown, then soak it off at Durango Hot Springs north of town. Book the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, a coal fired steam train climbing through the San Juan Mountains to the historic mining town of Silverton. It sells out; reserve early.

Saddle up for guided horseback rides through national forest terrain. Chase waterfalls at Cascade Falls near Purgatory or along the Vallecito Creek Trail into the Weminuche Wilderness. At Purgatory Resort, ride the Inferno Mountain Coaster down the mountainside, take a scenic lift, or hit the ziplines. Hikers and mountain bikers have hundreds of miles of San Juan National Forest trails to burn through.

Got a full day? Mesa Verde National Park and its ancestral cliff dwellings are a straight shot west.

Whatever brings you here, you'll leave talking about when you can come back.
