Summer runners race beside Rehoboth water park
This flat Rehoboth 5K starts at Jungle Jim’s, giving runners and families an energetic morning near beaches, trails, and water-park fun.
Event details
The Seashore Striders’ summer series rolls on from Jungle Jim’s, the water park just outside Rehoboth Beach that lends its parking lot and its name to one of the region’s more reliably crowded 5Ks. Now in its 22nd year, the race draws a wide mix of entrants: serious runners chasing series points, vacationing families running together, and supporters who show up mainly for the coffee and the company.
The course is flat and straightforward, laid out on roads familiar to anyone who has spent a summer in the area, which keeps the field moving briskly even in the early heat. Because the start is early and the course short, most runners are finished, showered, and back at the water park before the day’s crowds arrive in full force.
Rehoboth Beach or Dewey Beach both make sensible bases, close enough for an easy morning drive to the start. Build the rest of the day around boardwalk breakfasts, water-park time for the kids, and whatever coastal recreation the afternoon calls for. Spectating is free.
