Boardwalk race brings families to Rehoboth Beach
A fast out-and-back Father’s Day race starts beside the Rehoboth boardwalk, pairing morning competition with a peak-season coastal getaway weekend.
Event details
Rehoboth Beach opens Father’s Day with a race that starts almost close enough to smell the boardwalk fry oil: runners gather beside Tiki Jac’s before setting off on a flat, fast out-and-back toward North Shores. Now in its 36th year, the race is a fixture of the Seashore Striders’ summer series and has become something of a family ritual for regulars who return year after year.
The appeal is less about competition than occasion. Kids run alongside parents, slower finishers get the same applause as the leaders, and the whole event wraps up early enough that the rest of Father’s Day still belongs to the beach rather than to recovery.
Because the course starts and ends within walking distance of the boardwalk, travelers can arrive the night before, sleep in slightly, and still make the start line on foot. The remainder of the weekend is easily filled with beach time, boardwalk breakfasts, and the network of coastal trails just outside town. Spectating is free, and the whole morning wraps before the day gets properly hot.
