Runners circle Millsboro’s pond and riverfront park
The Dam Mill 5K brings runners to Cupola Park beside Millsboro Pond, pairing an early race with easy access to Sussex County recreation.
Event details
Millsboro Pond gives the Dam Mill 5K a waterside setting unusual for inland Sussex County, where most of the region’s summer races stick to roads and parking lots. Now in its 43rd year, the race is part of both the Seashore Striders’ summer calendar and a first-responder series, a combination that draws a steady mix of series regulars and community supporters who show up year after year.
The Sunday-morning timing and small-town setting keep the event low-key by design: no major road closures, no large crowds, just a straightforward course around Cupola Park with the pond as a scenic backdrop for the early miles before the sun climbs higher.
Millsboro and nearby Long Neck make sensible bases for runners not already staying at the beach, and the inland setting opens up options a coastal race wouldn’t: paddling and fishing on the pond itself, or a short drive to nearby state parks for those extending the weekend beyond race morning and away from the coastal crowds. Spectating is free.
