Augusta pairs a river town parade with dockside fireworks
Watch Augusta’s patriotic parade, then head to the Ohio River boat dock for fish fry fare, family fun, and dusk fireworks.
Event details
Augusta, Kentucky does not announce itself. It simply appears along a bend in the Ohio River, a tidy grid of Federal-style storefronts and painted porches sloping toward the water, and earns your attention before you have parked the car. On Saturday, July 4, 2026, Augusta’s Independence Day celebration begins at 3 p.m. with a Main Street parade and builds through the afternoon toward a dusk fireworks display launched from the Augusta boat dock, where the Ohio River carries the reflections downstream and the crowd gathers along the bank in the easy, unhurried way of towns that have been doing this for generations.
The Ohio River as the Setting
Augusta’s Fourth is inseparable from its geography. The boat dock is a natural gathering point, low and close to the water, with the Kentucky hills rising on one side and the Ohio moving past on the other. Arrive before the parade, walk the riverfront, and claim your spot on the bank early. The fireworks launch close enough to the water that the reflection doubles the show.
What to Do Before Dark
Augusta Winery, one of the oldest in the region, pours its estate wines in a setting overlooking the river and is worth a stop on the way into town. For dinner, the Beehive Tavern on Main Street has been serving the Ohio River corridor for years; the pan-fried catfish with hush puppies is the order, and the porch tables fill fast on holiday evenings.
