Event details

The Adventure Center of Asheville at 85 Expo Drive operates one of the region’s most comprehensive outdoor youth programs, earning placement on Newsweek’s America’s Best Summer Day Camps list for 2024 with a five-star rating. The 100-acre property five minutes from downtown features nine ziplines, including two 1,200-foot runs with city views, 77 climbing elements across seven aerial trails, a dedicated KidZip park, and Kolo Bike Park’s four miles of purpose-built mountain bike trails.

Summer day camps run June 15 through August 21, 2026, with programs segmented by age: the Discovery Program (ages 8-10) and Exploration Program (ages 11-13) each cost $469 per week, while Kolo Flow Bike Camp (ages 8-13) runs $449 weekly. Sessions operate Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Activities include whitewater rafting on the Pigeon River’s Class II and III rapids, TreeQuest climbing on century-old oaks, and environmental education covering survival skills and shelter building.

The center holds American Camp Association accreditation, meeting over 200 health, safety, and programming standards, and operates under Managing Owner Jeff Greiner, whose family pioneered Southeast adventure tourism. His parents founded Wildwater, Ltd. in 1971 as the first whitewater rafting company in the region, now among the largest outfitters in the country with over 50 years of experience.

Free parking fills the on-site lot. Lake Powhatan sits just 10-12 miles southwest (15-20 minutes), while Beaver Lake is remarkably close at 2-3 miles north. Lake Lure requires about 45 minutes at 27-28 miles.

Within a few miles, Sunny Point Café (founded 2003) at 626 Haywood Road pioneered West Asheville’s farm-to-table scene, harvesting from its on-site garden for dishes like shrimp and grits. 12 Bones Smokehouse (founded 2005) at 5 Foundy Street in the River Arts District famously served President Obama three times and remains beloved for its blueberry-chipotle ribs.
