Event details

Steep forest roads and technical singletrack around Bailey become the proving ground each June for one of Colorado’s more demanding backcountry mountain-bike races, with long-course and shorter-course riders both tackling sustained elevation through Pike National Forest. A results board near the finish line keeps waiting families updated on rider progress throughout the long day.

Families supporting a rider can use the Platte Canyon High School start and finish as a comfortable home base, watching riders roll out at dawn and trickle back in through the day rather than following a remote course themselves. The forested setting offers plenty of shade for a long day of waiting.

The early start and demanding distance favor a pre-race overnight for riders and their support crews rather than a predawn drive from Denver. Reserve a Stay in or near Bailey, pack layers for a cool mountain morning, and add Staunton State Park or South Platte River trails to extend the visit. It is a quietly serious mountain-bike test set in genuinely remote foothills terrain. Afternoon storms build quickly in the foothills during summer, so pack rain gear even under a clear morning sky.
