Event details

The Belgrade Lakes Boat Parade on Saturday, July 4, 2026, runs through Mill Stream on Great Pond at noon, and the premise is as straightforward as it is satisfying: decorated boats, a compact and scenic village setting, and the kind of informal community spectacle that requires no ticket, no reserved seat, and no particular expertise to enjoy. The parade runs approximately one hour. It is free. The surrounding docks, lawns, and lakeside porches provide viewing positions of varying formality, and the village’s compact scale means the best spots are a short walk from anywhere in Belgrade Lakes.

Why the Boat Parade Works
A July 4 boat parade through Mill Stream succeeds because of what surrounds it: Great Pond on one side, Long Pond beginning just beyond the village center on the other, and a community that has organized its entire summer existence around the water connecting them. The decorated boats range from earnest to theatrical, and the gap in quality between the two categories is what makes the judging genuinely entertaining. Stake out a position on the Mill Stream footbridge or along the Main Street dock by 11:30 a.m. for an unobstructed mid-channel view.

The Belgrade Lakes Chain
The interconnected water system that defines the Belgrade region, seven lakes linked by streams and carry paths, constitutes one of central Maine’s most rewarding paddling and boating environments. A morning kayak through the narrows between Long Pond and Great Pond, before the parade boat traffic builds, gives the holiday its proper opening chapter. The Belgrade Lakes Association maintains a detailed waterway map available at Day’s Store on Main Street and at most rental outfitters in the village.

Where to Eat
Day’s Store, in continuous operation since 1925 on Main Street, earns its reputation on a lobster roll served cold with house mayonnaise on a toasted split-top bun. It is the village’s most honest and most copied meal, and the only place to eat it is on the dock with the pond in front of you. For a sit-down dinner after the parade, The Village Inn and Tavern on Main Street runs a dining room with New England staples and a screened porch that captures the lake breeze through the long July evening.

Free admission. Mill Stream on Great Pond, Main Street, Belgrade Lakes. Boat parade begins at noon, concludes by approximately 1 p.m. Street parking along Main Street and in the village lot; arrive by 11 a.m. on a holiday weekend for easy positioning.
