Route 66 comes alive with small-town fun
A classic Route 66 street festival with vendors, cars, and live entertainment in Bethany, just outside Oklahoma City on Memorial Day weekend.
Event details
On May 23, 2026, the Bethany 66 Festival turns a historic block of Route 66 in downtown Bethany, Oklahoma, into a day of classic Americana. The free, family-friendly event takes over a one-block stretch near the 39th Expressway, just minutes from Oklahoma City, so you can drop in for a few hours or make a full day of it. Expect vintage chrome at the car show, handmade finds from local artisans, and a lineup of food trucks serving regional favorites.
The tone is relaxed and community-forward, with plenty happening without feeling spread out. Plan around the car show awards at about 2:00 PM, then settle in for live music on the festival stage, with performers such as Jake Barnes, Edgar Cruz, and Deep Fried Sequins. Families can rotate between the kids zone and the princess and action hero parade, while you take in Route 66 landmarks nearby, including the Western Motel neon sign and the 1922 Farmers Bank building.
To make the day smooth, aim to arrive by 10:00 AM for easier street parking and the opening sets before the midday heat. Bring a folding chair or blanket for a comfortable spot near the stage, plus high-SPF sunscreen and a reusable water bottle since much of the festival sits on open pavement. If you want a quieter interlude, take a short drive to the Lake Overholser Bridge to walk original segments of the Mother Road. Entry is free, but you will want a card or cash for arts and crafts booths and local merchant sales. The festival runs rain or shine, so check the Bethany Improvement Foundation website if weather is questionable.
If you are coming from out of town, look for lodging along the Route 66 corridor or near the Oklahoma City riverfront for straightforward access. You can also book a vacation rental near Lake Overholser through Lake.com if you prefer a residential base. Leashed pets are welcome, and in past years even had their own parade, with main festivities typically wrapping by late afternoon.
