Event details

The Big Island Marlin Tournament brings the summer series back to Honokōhau Harbor for another focused stretch of offshore competition in late August, extending Kona’s marlin tournament season well past the Fourth of July rush that dominates the harbor’s earlier summer schedule. Kona’s steep submarine slope continues to put productive water within easy reach of the fleet.

By this point in the season, the tournament circuit has developed a familiar rhythm for regular competitors, many of whom have fished several of Kona’s earlier summer events and return for this late-August stretch as something of a closing chapter before autumn’s quieter fishing calendar begins, gear packed away for the year not long after.

Registration, fishing days, and awards support multi-night stays for crews and their families throughout the tournament. Visitors can monitor harbor returns each evening and build a trip around snorkeling, a visit to nearby coffee country up the mountain, and the general waterfront atmosphere that defines Kona regardless of which tournament happens to be underway that particular week of an already long summer season.
