Labor Day Runners Race Toward Buckhead Finish Lines
Atlanta’s Labor Day road race offers 10K and 5K distances, drawing runners and supporters for an early holiday morning competition.
Event details
The Big Peach Sizzler sends runners through Atlanta on Labor Day morning with both 10K and 5K distance options, a point-to-point format that starts near Chamblee’s MARTA station and finishes in Buckhead. That layout gives the race a genuine sense of covering ground, a contrast to the out-and-back or looped courses more common among the city’s other road races.
As one of the last major races on the summer calendar, the Sizzler carries a bit of a closing-chapter feel for runners who’ve spent the season building toward it. The point-to-point finish in Buckhead also sets up naturally for a post-race city day, rather than requiring a return trip to a distant starting line, with runners simply continuing on into the neighborhood once they cross the mat.
A hotel near the start, finish, or a MARTA station along the route can meaningfully reduce race-day stress given the point-to-point format. Once the race wraps, participants can turn the holiday into a full city day, with brunch, parks, and Buckhead’s shopping all within easy reach of the finish line.
