What is the Bluewater Anglers’ Walleye Derby?
The Bluewater Anglers’ Walleye Derby is an exciting annual fishing tournament that draws anglers to Waterfront Park Ramp in Point Edward, Ontario. This year, mark your calendars for July 25–26, 2025. It’s a fantastic opportunity for all licensed anglers to showcase their skills in catching walleye from the abundant waters of the St. Clair River and Lake Huron. Anglers can fish from either boats or the shore, making it an inviting event for everyone.
How to Participate in the Derby?
To join the fun, each angler is asked to purchase a $10 entry ticket. You can snag your ticket at The Outdoorsman, where they will be available until 4:30 PM on Friday, July 25. The excitement kicks off at 6:00 PM on Friday, and you’ll want to be present for the weigh-in at the hatchery on Saturday between 2:00 PM and 2:30 PM. Remember, only the largest walleye caught by each participant qualifies for weighing, emphasizing the competitive spirit of the event. The fishing area spans from the St. Clair River south to the end of Fawn Island, east to Grand Bend’s harbor, and north to latitude 43°34′ in Lake Huron.
What Can You Win?
The rewards are worth the effort! Prizes are awarded to the ten heaviest walleyes caught, with a grand prize of $500 for the largest. Plus, Bluewater Angler members have a chance to win an additional $100 prize for entering the heaviest fish. The moment you’ve been waiting for arrives immediately after the weigh-in, where winners are officially announced. But that’s not all; there are also draw prizes for participants present at the event, adding an extra layer of excitement. Notably, the Village of Point Edward generously sponsors the first-place prize, showcasing their support for local events.
