River wreath toss and parade to Evergreen Cemetery
Start at the Mississippi River bridge for Brainerd’s wreath toss, then follow the parade to Evergreen Cemetery for the community’s main ceremony.
Event details
The Brainerd Memorial Day River Tribute and Parade delivers a classic hometown observance in the Brainerd Lakes region, beginning on the Mississippi River. You start at the Laurel Street Bridge for a 9:00 AM wreath toss, a quiet, solemn moment that frames the morning with purpose before the day moves into town.
From the river, you head to the All-Veterans Memorial for a 9:30 AM ceremony, then take your place for the 10:00 AM parade as it steps off toward Evergreen Cemetery. Along the route you will see marching units, color guards, veterans groups, and local organizations, with plenty of good viewing between the memorial and the cemetery entrance.
Plan to arrive by 8:45 AM if you want a rail-side spot on the bridge. If you are staying through the 10:30 AM main ceremony at Evergreen Cemetery, bring a portable lawn chair and dress for shifting conditions. Downtown parking fills quickly, so use side streets away from the parade route and plan a short walk.
All events are free and open to the public. Light rain usually does not change the schedule, but for severe weather you should check local city announcements for updates. Leashed pets are typically allowed outdoors, though crowds and sudden noises can be tough on them. If you are making a weekend of it, consider lodging in the Brainerd Lakes or Gull Lake areas for easy access to downtown and a simple base for the holiday.
