Backcountry stage racing with Breck Epic energy
A stage-race for mountain bikers: big climbs, big views, and big days, with each loop starting and finishing right in Breckenridge.
Event details
Six days of backcountry mountain biking from August 10-15, 2026, with each stage starting and finishing in Breckenridge. Riders tackle 240+ miles and 40,000 feet of climbing across high-alpine singletrack, fire roads, and technical descents—all while sleeping in the same bed each night. Registration typically opens in November, with prices around $1,500 for the full week.
Spectators can catch riders at multiple town-based checkpoints, especially the daily start/finish at Main Street Station. The course changes yearly, but expect stages ranging from 25-50 miles with early morning departures (6-7 a.m.) and riders rolling back in by mid-afternoon. Even if you’re not racing, the energy along Main Street during race week makes it worth planning a visit.
Base yourself near Main Street for walkable access to race-day action, or choose a rental along the Blue River for quieter mornings between stages. Lake.com properties with bike storage and outdoor showers are ideal if you’re supporting a rider who’ll need post-stage recovery space. Weather in August means afternoon thunderstorms—plan indoor activities for 2-5 p.m. windows.
