Chicago Honors Jazz Legends in Millennium Park Festival
Free multi-venue jazz performances in Millennium Park and other city stages.
Event details
The Chicago Jazz Festival is a four-day, free public celebration of Chicago’s legendary music scene, running from Saturday, September 26, to Monday, September 28, 2026, in Millennium Park and beyond. You’ll hear world-class jazz trios, blues legends, and stirring gospel choirs on the Pritzker Pavilion stage, while the Harris Theater hosts intimate sets by emerging artists. Simultaneous “Jazz on the Lake” concerts at DuSable Lake Shore Drive link the city’s skyline to Lake Michigan’s waterfront, and satellite shows in Hyde Park bring community spirit to historic Jackson Park.
All performances are free—just arrive early to claim your spot on the Great Lawn or grab a seat under the Pavilion’s sweeping canopy. Food vendors line the park promenade, offering New Orleans-style gumbo, beignets, and local craft brews. “I always come for the music but stay for the view of Lake Michigan,” says local saxophonist Maya Johnson. Together, we sample smoky sounds and skyline sunsets, making each set feel like a lakeside retreat in the heart of the city.
Quick Tips:
– Best Times: Evening headline acts (7–9 PM) draw big crowds—aim for afternoon performances for easier seating.
– Getting There: Take the Chicago “L” to Millennium Station or bike along the Lakefront Trail.
– Weather Prep: Bring a light jacket; summer nights on the lakefront can be breezy.
