Event details

Each Memorial Day weekend, McEuen Park becomes the starting line for one of the Pacific Northwest’s most scenic running weekends. The Coeur d’Alene Marathon spreads across four distances — full marathon, half, 10K and 5K — so grandparents chasing a personal best and kids attempting their first timed race can share the same finish chute overlooking the lake.

What sets this course apart is the water. Runners spend much of the morning tracing the shoreline of Lake Coeur d’Alene, with resort docks, pine ridgelines and open blue stretching alongside the pavement. An early start keeps the pack moving before the summer sun climbs, and a lively race village gives finishers and their cheering sections a shaded place to regroup.

Families tend to stretch the trip into a full weekend. Tubbs Hill’s lakeside trails offer an easy post-race walk, downtown Coeur d’Alene supplies patio dining within a few blocks of the finish, and a scenic lake cruise rounds out the afternoon for anyone still in racing shoes. Because the marathon falls on a holiday weekend with an early start, booking a room near the lakefront well ahead of race day is worth the effort.
