Lake Minneola Triathlon Opens Clermont’s Summer Race Series
Clermont hosts a destination triathlon on the Lake Minneola waterfront, pairing strong summer travel interest with nearby recreation, public viewing, and convenient overnight lodging.
Event details
Clermont’s rolling hills are an anomaly in famously flat Central Florida, and the first race in the Cool Sommer Mornings Triathlon Series puts that terrain to full use. Athletes launch from Clermont Waterfront Park into the lake for the swim leg, then climb onto a cycling and running course shaped by the citrus ridges that define this part of Lake County.
The early start is deliberate. Beating the Florida heat matters as much as beating the clock, and it gives the morning a particular rhythm: a lakefront hush before dawn, then the steady arrival of families staking out spots near the transition area as the sun comes up. By midmorning, the waterfront park is as much a gathering place as a finish line.
Because the race begins before most hotels serve breakfast, a stay within a short drive of Clermont pays off, whether at a lakeside inn or a rental with easy highway access. Extend the visit with time on Clermont’s chain of lakes, its cycling trails, or a slower exploration of the surrounding citrus country once the race numbers come off.
