Since 1947, the Coon Dog Labor Day Celebration in Cherokee honors the state dog with muzzle-loading rifle salute, liars’ contest (tall tale competition), “Top Dog” coon hound parade, and live country tunes on the amphitheater lawn. Local barbecue pits offer ribs, beans and cornbread. Arts & crafts booths and a vintage Corvette car show round out the day. Kids’ inflatable zone and puppy playpen keep families entertained.
