A Vermont gravel hundo with big-vertical grit
Tackle 108 miles of Vermont gravel and 14,500 feet of climbing from Silver Towers Camp in Ripton, starting 6:00 AM May 24, 2026.
Event details
Vermont gravel does not do subtle, and the Crazy 8 Gravel Hundo leans into that truth with 108 miles and 14,500 feet of climbing. You start and finish at Silver Towers Camp in Ripton, spending the day on classic Green Mountain backroads that reward strong legs and steady focus. With registration capped at 30 riders, the field stays small, the pacing stays honest, and you will recognize the same faces from start line to finish meal.
You can expect a route that is roughly 78 percent unpaved and built around punchy gaps that add up fast. The start is 6:00 AM sharp, and the course stays open until midnight, so your plan should match your fitness and your daylight. The defining moments come on the long, grinding climbs and the fast, technical descents where you need to stay fully engaged.
Navigation is on you, so download the course in Ride with GPS before you arrive and confirm your device setup. Bring enough water and calories to cover remote stretches where support can vary year to year, and pack for quick weather changes, including a light shell for cold descents. Tickets are $80 and the small field limit means it can sell out quickly, so if you want in, do not wait.
Make Silver Towers Camp your base: camping and bunk-style lodging are available on site for $15 per night, and 100 percent of lodging proceeds support camp programs. If you prefer a standard room, look in Ripton or nearby Middlebury, or book a vacation rental for a quieter recovery night in the woods. When you roll back in, you get a well earned meal and a finisher award, plus the satisfaction of a route that demands respect.
