Event details

Lake Havasu City makes a persuasive case for spending the Fourth of July on the water rather than in a park, and Fire on the Water at Rotary Community Park is the event that makes it possible. Presented by Anderson Auto and Powersports and hosted by Go Lake Havasu, the celebration runs from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on July 4th at the park’s baseball fields, with a fireworks finale launching at 9:00 p.m. from Piccadilly Point over Thompson Bay. The show, engineered by Lantis Fireworks and Lasers of Utah, deploys more than 1,600 shells and effects over 18 minutes, with sightlines available from the park grounds, from boats anchored in Thompson Bay, from London Bridge Beach, Rotary Beach, and for those who prefer a quieter position, from Cypress Park on the north end of the lake. Admission is free.

What the Day Looks Like

The festival grounds open at 1:00 p.m. with food trucks, local vendors, a KidZone with games and activities hosted by Kiwanis, a cornhole tournament, a car and boat show, and a beer garden. Live music on the Radio Central stage begins at 3:00 p.m. Mohave Misting supplies cooling stations throughout the park, a practical necessity given that July temperatures in Lake Havasu City regularly reach 108 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. Lawn chairs are welcome inside the grounds; coolers and pets are not. For prime Thompson Bay boat viewing, locals begin anchoring in position well before noon, so if you plan to watch from the water, secure your spot early.

London Bridge and the Bridgewater Channel

Lake Havasu City’s most recognizable landmark is the historic London Bridge, purchased by city founder Robert McCulloch in 1968 and reassembled stone by stone over the Bridgewater Channel. Walking the bridge before the festival opens gives you a strong elevated view of the channel and the surrounding Mojave Desert landscape. The channel itself becomes its own celebration on the Fourth, with dozens of boats anchored side by side in a floating gathering that is as much a part of the Havasu holiday as the fireworks. Kayak and paddleboard rentals along the lakefront are widely available in the morning hours before the heat peaks.

Where to Eat

Barley Brothers Restaurant and Brewery on the island side of the London Bridge has anchored the local dining scene since 1997, with a waterfront patio and a menu that suits a long holiday afternoon. Shugrue’s on the Island is a longer-standing local institution with sweeping lake views and a dependable menu of American and seafood dishes. Both are within easy walking distance of the London Bridge and best visited before the festival crowds thicken in the late afternoon.

Where to Stay

Lake Havasu is built around the water, and properties along the channel and Thompson Bay shoreline put you closest to both the celebration and the lake itself. Book your accommodations near Lake Havasu on Lake.com and plan a morning on the water before the afternoon festival begins.
