Steamboat Springs swaps fireworks for a mountain drone finale

Head to Steamboat Springs for a hometown parade, pancake breakfast, rodeo tradition, and a festive drone show over the resort.

Start date
4 July, 2026
End date
4 July, 2026 9:30 PM

Event details

Steamboat Springs has been celebrating Independence Day with Cowboys’ Roundup Days since 1927, and the cumulative weight of that tradition gives the Fourth of July here a texture and authenticity that most resort towns cannot manufacture. The 2026 schedule, confirmed by the City of Steamboat Springs, includes the Lions Club Pancake Breakfast, the Nordic Combine Roller Ski Race, the Hometown Parade on Lincoln Avenue, the Jumpin’ and Jammin’ Ski Jumping Extravaganza at Howelsen Hill, and the Steamboat Springs ProRodeo Series. The evening finale format for 2026 is being selected through an application process, with a drone show format expected following the success of the 2025 show above Steamboat Resort. All daytime events are free; rodeo tickets start at $25.

The Full Day, Event by Event

The Steamboat Springs Ski Town Lions Club serves free pancakes at Little Toots Park from 7:00 to 9:30 a.m., a tradition that draws both locals and visitors and serves as the unofficial starting gun for the day.

The Hometown Parade on Lincoln Avenue begins at 10:00 a.m. from the corner of 10th Street, with floats judged on originality, creativity, and spirit by local judges positioned on the corner of 8th and Lincoln.

The Jumpin’ and Jammin’ competition at Howelsen Hill follows, where more than 80 of the country’s best Nordic combined and ski jumping athletes launch from the HS75 jump to distances exceeding 220 feet, free to watch from the hillside.

The ProRodeo Series at the Brent Romick Arena, the largest of the summer, runs from 7:30 p.m. with a Western BBQ and live music beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the arena. Children under 6 attend free.

The Yampa River and Summer Water

The Yampa River runs directly through downtown Steamboat Springs, and the Yampa River Core Trail, a paved multi-use path following the river through town, is one of the most accessible waterfront walks in any Colorado mountain community.

Fish Creek Falls, a 280-foot waterfall about 4 miles from downtown via Fish Creek Falls Road, is Steamboat’s most popular short hike and is best visited early on July 4th before the trail fills with holiday visitors.

Stagecoach State Park Reservoir, about 17 miles south on County Road 14, offers flatwater kayaking, fishing, and a quieter summer lake experience for visitors who want time on the water outside the main event schedule.

Dining on Lincoln Avenue

Laundry on 8th Street is Steamboat’s most consistently praised restaurant for contemporary American cooking, with a menu built around Colorado sourced ingredients and a wine list that suits a celebratory holiday dinner.

The Kitchen in Gondola Square at the base of the resort is a strong option for lunch before the evening rodeo, known for its elk and bison burgers and a patio that captures the mountain afternoon well.

Mambo Italiano on Lincoln Avenue is a lively, casual Italian standby for families who want a straightforward pasta dinner before heading to the arena.

Johnny B. Good’s Diner on Lincoln Avenue, open since 1992, is the go-to for a classic American breakfast or burger with a retro diner atmosphere that suits the Cowboys’ Roundup Days spirit.

Where to Stay

The Yampa River corridor and Stagecoach Reservoir put water access within easy reach of Steamboat’s full holiday schedule. Book your stay near Steamboat Springs on Lake.com and plan the Fourth around the full Cowboys’ Roundup Days experience from pancakes to ProRodeo.
