A spring 5K to a river bridge

Ottawa’s rails-to-trails route feels especially fresh in early April, when the Flint Hills Trail greens up and the Marais des Cygnes River runs high beneath the bridge. The Franklin County Historical Society 5K is built for families and first-timers, with a gentle out-and-back that begins and ends at the Old Depot Museum.
Make it a small-town weekend: browse downtown Ottawa, then head to nearby lakes and trailheads for an extra hike or picnic. For more water time, base your stay near one of the area’s reservoirs and keep the spring outdoors going.
