Classic Cars Cruise into Lake Chatuge Mountain Country
Hundreds of classic vehicles, vendors and heritage displays fill the fairgrounds for three days, encouraging scenic drives and Hiawassee overnight stays.
Event details
Classic cars and trucks fill the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds each summer for the Moonshine Cruiz-In, where rows of polished chrome share the grounds with vendors, live music, and displays tracing the region’s moonshine-running heritage. The mountain backdrop and Lake Chatuge setting give the show a distinctly regional flavor absent from more generic car show circuits elsewhere in the state.
That heritage angle sets the Cruiz-In apart from a standard car show. The connection between North Georgia’s Prohibition-era moonshine trade and the high-speed driving skills it demanded runs through the event’s programming, giving collectors and casual spectators alike a bit of local history alongside the horsepower, with some entrants tracing their own family’s bootlegging past directly to the surrounding hills.
Three days of programming give both collectors and spectators genuine reason to stay overnight rather than pass through for an afternoon. The scenic highways and lake overlooks surrounding Hiawassee extend the experience well beyond the show field itself, making the Cruiz-In a fitting anchor for a longer North Georgia mountain road trip, particularly for visitors who’d enjoy driving some of those same winding roads themselves.
