Event details

The Hawaiʻi State Farm Fair celebrates its 60th year with 4-H livestock competitions, a country market, plant sales, contests, and island-grown food, giving Whitmore Village a rural counterpoint to Oʻahu’s resort districts that most visitors never see. The setting, well inland and well removed from any beach, offers a genuinely different side of the island.

That agricultural focus is the fair’s entire reason for being, and it shows in the details: livestock judging, produce competitions, and plant sales reflect a working farming community rather than a tourist-oriented event dressed up in rural imagery. Longtime attendees tend to have strong opinions about which year’s harvest was best and aren’t shy about sharing them.

The fair is easy to pair with a visit to Wahiawā Botanical Garden, the scenic Lake Wilson viewpoints nearby, or a North Shore stay just a short drive away. Families should allow several hours to properly take in the animals, food booths, and agricultural displays, since the fairgrounds reward a slower, more deliberate pace than a typical festival built around quick, easily photographed attractions.
