High Hope endurance weekend puts trail runners to the test
Trail runners tackle ultras and relays at High Hope Ranch in Glen Rose, with a weekend-long schedule of starts and finish-line camaraderie.
Event details
High Hope Endurance Run is your long-weekend trail challenge at High Hope Ranch in Glen Rose, just outside the Texas Hill Country. You can choose from 200K, 100K, 50K, 25K, 10K, or 5K routes on marked trails that cut through private pastures and cedar forest on a 1,000-acre working ranch managed for wildlife protection. If you bring friends, the range of distances makes it easy for your group to race on the same weekend, with crews and spectators posted near ranch headquarters to catch finishes and track progress.
Your schedule depends on distance: the 200K starts Friday at 7:00 PM with a 48-hour cutoff, while the 100K, 50K, 25K, 10K, and 5K start as early as 7:00 AM across Saturday and Sunday. You get round-the-clock aid stations and a deep volunteer roster for the overnight efforts. Medals go to all finishers, with buckles for 100K and 200K, plus on-site food vendors and a lively finish-line hub at headquarters.
Plan for Hill Country trail conditions: elevation changes, rocky footing, roots, ruts, and limestone. Arrive at least an hour before your start for parking and check-in, and bring a reusable bottle since the race is refill-forward. Trail shoes matter here, and if you are running 100K or 200K, you can use a pacer as long as they register in advance. The weekend runs rain or shine, pets are not allowed to protect livestock and wildlife, and camping is separate from your registration fee; if you cook at camp, bring a propane stove because ground fires are restricted.
You can stay on-site with primitive camping for a small nightly per-person fee, or upgrade to ranch guest houses such as M’walimu with a private pool. If you prefer town amenities, Glen Rose hotels are close, and vacation rentals near the Paluxy River are another option. Many runners extend the trip with Fossil Rim Wildlife Center next door and Dinosaur Valley State Park for the dinosaur tracks.
