Event details

iDewey Skim University turns Dewey Beach into an open-air skills lab where you learn the timing, footwork, and balance that make skimboarding work. You meet at the water’s edge near New Orleans Street and train right on the sand, practicing quick transitions from sprint to drop so you can glide across the shallow wash.

The mood is focused and energetic, with instructors working in small groups on core technique, including the plane and the wrap. You will learn how to read the surf, pick your line, and manage speed through the shore break. Sessions run 90 minutes, Monday through Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., all summer long from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early for check-in and to claim your spot on the beach. Wear a snug swimsuit or rash guard, apply high-performance waterproof sunscreen, and bring a reusable water bottle plus a towel for after class. Parking is limited in the morning, so walking or biking to the New Orleans Street entrance can save time.

Classes are weather-dependent, and thunderstorms or hazardous surf may lead to a reschedule or cancellation. You do not need your own board, since professional-grade skimboards are typically provided, and the format suits kids, teens, and active adults with basic swimming competence and agility. Friends and family can watch from the shoreline, and if you want the shortest commute, consider vacation rentals at the southern end of Dewey Beach or the nearby Forgotten Mile area, or browse Lake.com for walkable coastal stays.
