Lake Coeur d’Alene Welcomes a Premier Triathlon
Athletes swim, cycle, and run through a lakefront resort landscape during a nationally recognized endurance weekend built for destination travel.
Event details
Lake Coeur d’Alene turns into a starting line each summer for one of the region’s premier half-distance triathlons. Athletes begin with a 1.2-mile lake swim before tackling a demanding bike route through North Idaho’s rolling terrain and finishing with a waterfront run back into downtown Coeur d’Alene.
The course’s dual identity — resort lake and serious athletic test — is what draws competitors from well beyond Idaho. Early bike check-in and staging mean race morning starts before sunrise, while the afternoon finish line, set against the downtown waterfront, gives supporters a festive place to gather and watch athletes come home.
Because logistics like bike drop-off and gear pickup span more than a single day, most competitors and their families settle into a two- or three-night resort stay. That extra time pays off: Tubbs Hill’s trails offer a recovery walk with lake views, scenic cruises let non-racing family members see the course from the water, and the Centennial Trail connects the whole scene by bike. Rooms near the lakefront fill quickly, so early booking matters.
