A 5K through Bruce Park and downtown Greenwich
Run the Jim Fixx 5K on Memorial Day, a picturesque route through Central Greenwich and Bruce Park that finishes on the track behind Town Hall.
Event details
The Jim Fixx Memorial Day Race is Greenwich, Connecticut’s Memorial Day morning 5K, and it doubles as a clean, efficient kickoff to the town’s summer rhythm. You start on Greenwich Avenue, the region’s premier shopping corridor, then move quickly into the lawns and tree cover of Bruce Park. Along the way, you get a clear look at Greenwich’s coastal architecture and tightly kept landscapes, with a field that typically includes competitive locals, visiting runners, and families.
You can expect an energetic, well-managed race with a fully paved, well-marked route. The shift from storefronts to the quieter interior of Bruce Park gives you a welcome change of pace mid-run, and the finish is built for spectators. You close with a final lap on the track at Havemeyer Field behind Town Hall, where friends and family can settle into the bleachers and watch the last sprint unfold.
Plan to arrive at the Wallace Center by 7:15 AM for check-in so you have your bib and timing chip in hand before the start. Parking on Greenwich Avenue is limited, so we recommend municipal lots near the train station or along Horseneck Lane. Register online ahead of time since day-of pricing usually increases and capacity can fill; for gear, bring moisture-wicking layers and light shoes, and keep in mind that humidity off Long Island Sound can build even with shade in the park. Bring a reusable water bottle for the post-race cooling area on the field, and if you run with a stroller, start at the back for safety.
If you are staying overnight, you will find high-end hotels and rentals near the downtown and waterfront; for more time near the shore, look to Old Greenwich or Riverside. You can also browse coastal Connecticut options on Lake.com for a home base with straightforward access to the start and nearby beaches. The race runs rain or shine, with delays possible only for severe lightning; awards typically cover overall and age-group categories with ceremonies on the field shortly after most finishers arrive, and while Bruce Park is dog-friendly, pets are generally discouraged on the course.
