Event details

Junior Bike Week, often referred to as the biggest kids’ bike party on the planet, is a vibrant and action-packed festival that celebrates the joy of biking among children and their families. This premier family-friendly bike festival takes place in the picturesque town of Crested Butte, Colorado, a locale fondly known as the birthplace of mountain biking.

The event is tailor-made for families with children of all ages and abilities, from as young as 3 to 18 years old. It attracts a diverse crowd of parents, young athletes, and biking enthusiasts who come together to share in the excitement and camaraderie of the cycling community. While the festival does not feature traditional music lovers or foodies, it is a haven for those who love the outdoors, adventure, and the thrill of competitive and non-competitive biking events.

Junior Bike Week is scheduled to take place from June 25 to June 29, 2025. The festivities kick off on Thursday, June 26, with a kick-off party presented by Orange Seal, complete with music, bike games, and craft mocktails. Each day is packed with a variety of events, including the Omnium Competition, which combines scores from downhill, short track, and cross-country disciplines, and the Junior Wildflower Classic, a cross-country mountain bike race that drew over 200 participants in 2024.

The venue for Junior Bike Week is the Crested Butte Town Park Yelenick Pavilion and the surrounding trails and bike park. Crested Butte is located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, offering stunning natural beauty with its rugged terrain, wildflowers, and scenic vistas. To get to Crested Butte, visitors can fly into the Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport or drive via Highway 135. Local transportation options are also available.

The unique appeal of Junior Bike Week lies in its comprehensive and inclusive nature. It offers a mix of competitive races and festive activities that cater to all levels of biking skills and interests. The Junior Wildflower Classic, for instance, is a highlight of the event, featuring courses designed for various age categories and boasting impressive prizes. Other signature experiences include the Junior Bike Week Downhill, Short Track, and Pump Track Challenge, each providing thrilling opportunities for young cyclists to test their skills.

On Friday, June 27, the festival hosts a family-friendly bike film night at The Majestic Theatre, complete with a raffle, although tickets for this event have already sold out. Throughout the long weekend, participants can also engage in trail work, enjoy bike-themed games, and participate in other action-packed activities.

What makes Junior Bike Week truly special is its commitment to fostering a safe and supportive environment for young cyclists. The event is a fundraiser for the Crested Butte Development Team, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high-quality, progress-based programming for youth ages 2-18. By attending Junior Bike Week, families not only get to enjoy an unforgettable biking experience but also contribute to the development of the next generation of cyclists.

In essence, Junior Bike Week is more than just a festival; it is a celebration of kids and bikes, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Crested Butte. It is an event that promises lifelong memories, exciting competitions, and a deep connection with the natural beauty and biking culture of Colorado. Whether you are a seasoned cyclist or just starting out, Junior Bike Week is an event that embodies the spirit of adventure, community, and the pure joy of riding bikes.
