What is the Junior Governor’s Cup Fishing Derby?
The Junior Governor’s Cup Fishing Derby is an exciting annual event taking place at Fort Stevenson State Park’s de Trobriand Marina Ramp in Garrison, North Dakota. On Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, this free fishing derby invites young anglers aged 17 and under to showcase their fishing skills in a friendly yet competitive environment. Whether you’re an aspiring fisher or a seasoned pro, this event promises a great time on the water.

How Can Young Anglers Participate?
Registration for the derby kicks off at 10:00 AM on the marina lawn, so be sure to arrive early. Fishing starts at 10:30 AM, allowing participants to dive right into the action. With multiple prize categories available, young anglers can aim for different awards, though each participant is limited to winning in just one category. It’s important to note that a limited number of loaner fishing poles are provided on a first-come, first-served basis, so it’s best to bring your own fishing rod if you can.

What Happens After the Derby?
After a day filled with casting lines and catching fish, a complimentary lunch will be served to participants while supplies last. This provides a perfect opportunity to share stories about the day’s adventures on the water with fellow anglers and their families. To access the park, ensure you have either an annual or daily vehicle permit, which can be conveniently purchased both online and at the park entrance. Join us for a day of fun, laughter, and fishing at the Junior Governor’s Cup Fishing Derby!
