Event details

The Lake Burton Fun Run links Moccasin Creek State Park with Laprade’s Marina along one of Georgia’s most inviting mountain-lake corridors, giving Independence Day morning an active start before the holiday settles into its more familiar rhythms of boating and grilling. The course itself, hugging the lake’s edge, offers glimpses of water and forest that make the run feel more like a scenic outing than a serious competition.

Families already spending the holiday in Rabun County make up much of the field and the crowd along the route, giving the event a distinctly local, low-stakes energy rare among Fourth of July road races. It’s less about finishing times than about being outside together before the day’s heat sets in, with strollers and dogs on leashes nearly as common as competitive runners.

Staying near the lake avoids an early drive and leaves plenty of room for the rest of the holiday: boating, fishing, or a marina lunch once the run wraps. For visitors already settled into a Lake Burton cabin for the Fourth, the fun run offers an easy, communal way to start the day before the water and the grill take over.
