Event details

Since 1986, Leavenworth has celebrated the accordion with four days of concerts, competitions, workshops, and jam sessions that fill three downtown venues from morning until night. The Leavenworth International Accordion Celebration runs June 26 to 29, sponsored by the Northwest Accordion Society and the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce. The Festhalle hosts main stage concerts, competitions, and vendor displays in the foyer. The Grange Hall operates as the education center, with an upper floor performance space for all skill levels, workshops, CD sales, sheet music vendors, and a lower level dedicated to workshops and free accordion lessons. The Front Street Gazebo offers free outdoor performances for tourists and accordion enthusiasts, with the Gazebo Ensemble performing Friday and Saturday late afternoons.

Featured performers include Matt Tolentino, Hank Thunder (also known as Hank Thunander), AlpenFolk, and Spokane Accordion Ensemble, representing genres from traditional polka to unexpected tango. The Frank Calapristi Accordion Parade on Saturday marches down Front Street to the Gazebo, turning the Bavarian village into a squeezebox procession that’s both charming and surprisingly irresistible. Free accordion lessons welcome beginners, while private coaching sessions with featured performers help advanced players refine their technique. Circle Jams at the Grange invite all players to perform as a group, then take turns playing short solos in an informal, supportive atmosphere. Jam sessions also pop up in local restaurants throughout the weekend. Events run from 8:45 AM to 9 PM most days, with an awards ceremony closing the celebration on Sunday. Andreas Keller (founded 1989) offers live accordion music and Saturday Polka Nights that extend the festival atmosphere well into the evening, while München Haus provides beer garden seating where you can discuss the day’s performances over Bavarian sausages and craft brews.

Lake Wenatchee, 20 miles north, offers hiking trails and lake swimming perfect for balancing four days of indoor performances with outdoor recreation. Lake Chelan, an hour northeast, features waterfront wine-tasting rooms and boat rentals for travelers who want to add water activities to their accordion weekend. Lake.com lists vacation homes and cabins at both lakes, ideal for accordion enthusiasts who want to extend their stay beyond the festival and experience the quiet mornings and sunset paddling that make Central Washington’s lake country worth the trip year-round.
