Make Memorial Day leis together at Windward Mall
Join Girl Scouts and locals to sew flower lei at Windward Mall, then carry the spirit of aloha into Memorial Day.
Event details
The Lei of Aloha on Oahu brings residents and visitors to Windward Mall Center Stage in Kaneohe to sew flower lei for Memorial Day. Often guided by the Girl Scouts of Hawaii and local volunteers, you will help prepare thousands of lei destined for the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, honoring veterans through a hands-on community effort.
Plan to arrive on the Saturday before Memorial Day between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. You can pull up a chair, learn the basics of traditional lei-making, and work alongside families and regulars. Materials are typically available, and you are welcome to bring fresh flowers and your own lei needle if you have them.
Arrive early for the best chance at a seat since tables can fill by midday. Wear comfortable clothing, bring a small bag for personal supplies, and take advantage of free, ample parking with accessible entrances near the food court and main doors. If you cannot stay to sew, you can still support the effort by dropping off bags of fresh blossoms.
This event is free, open to the public, and seating is first come, first served. It takes place indoors in a climate-controlled area, and if it gets crowded you can wait for space to open or take a break with the mall’s shops and food options. For the long weekend, stay in Kaneohe or Kailua for easy access, consider the North Shore for a quieter base, or book coastal rentals through Lake.com.
