Event details

The Lewes Memorial Day Tribute Parade brings a maritime character to Delaware’s first town as you join the community in honoring fallen service members. You can watch the procession move through the historic district and across the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal, where the waterfront setting frames a respectful start to your holiday Monday by the coast.

You will find the parade staging near Lewes Presbyterian Church, with check-in around 9:30 AM for participating veterans and active service members. The route follows Savannah Road toward the beach and finishes at American Legion Post 17, 113 American Legion Road. Expect military units, local civic groups, and commemorative floats, including the Poppy Float and a POW and MIA tribute.

For the best viewing, plan to stand along Savannah Road, especially near the canal bridge for clear sightlines as the parade crosses the water. Arrive at least 30 minutes before the 11:00 AM start to secure a curbside spot, and come prepared with sunscreen and water since shade is limited. Parking is easiest in municipal lots downtown or near the beach, then walk to the route to avoid road closures; well-behaved dogs on a leash are generally fine, but crowds and noise can be intense.

After the parade, you can attend the community ceremony at the Post 17 Pavilion at approximately 1:00 PM, where local speakers pay respect to those lost in service. The event runs rain or shine; in severe weather, check local community boards or the Lewes Chamber of Commerce for updates. If you want to stay nearby, book in the historic district for an easy walk to the route, or choose coastal rentals near Lewes Beach, with additional regional options and beach houses available through Lake.com.
