Winter tubing and skating at Snow Island
Tubing, skating, snowy play areas, and rides turn Lake Lanier into a winter escape—perfect for families looking for cold-weather fun in Georgia.
Event details
North Georgia trades palm trees for pine trees when Margaritaville at Lanier Islands transforms into License to Chill Snow Island each winter, running mid-November through February. This is snow tubing, ice skating, carnival rides, and snow play zones dropped onto the shores of Lake Lanier (7650 Lanier Islands Parkway, Buford), and it’s the kind of winter playground that doesn’t require a six-hour drive to the mountains. The centerpiece is Parrot Mountain, a 575-foot snow tubing run (Georgia’s longest and fastest) that drops eight stories and sends riders screaming down fresh-blown snow. Single riders only, 42-inch height requirement, and you’ll want gloves because the rope tow gets cold after a few runs.
