Run Key Biscayne with ocean views and purpose
Choose a 5K, 10K, or half marathon at Playita in Key Biscayne, then celebrate your finish with a beach walk and picnic time.
Event details
Trade the usual Memorial Day schedule for a sunrise run on Key Biscayne. The Memorial Day Run 5K/10K/13.1 MIAMI starts at Playita with the first wave at 7:30 AM, sending you onto a flat road course with steady views of the Atlantic and the Miami skyline across the bay. You choose your distance and set the tone for the holiday with a focused, active morning.
This is a small, private group run hosted by The Best Races, built around simplicity rather than spectacle. You will not find timing mats or a large expo; instead, you get an organized start, clear coordination, and room to run your own pace, from a steady effort to a walk-run. Registration includes a running shirt, finisher’s medal, and towel, with shirts typically shipped to the address you used during registration during race week.
Expect a fast, level route where the main feature is the light: sunrise over the water and glassy high-rises brightening as you move. The day’s purpose stays in view as a tribute to service members, with a calm, respectful atmosphere that still feels like a real event.
Plan to arrive by 7:00 AM for parking and check-in at Playita, and register early since waves are capped and often sell out. Dress in light, moisture-wicking gear with serious sun protection, and bring a reusable water bottle because the heat ramps up quickly after 8:00 AM. Timing is optional and self-tracked through apps such as Strava or Nike Run. It’s all-ages; participants under 18 must be with a guardian, and strollers are typically welcome. For easy logistics, stay on Key Biscayne, or base yourself in Brickell or Coconut Grove for more hotel choice and a short drive over the Rickenbacker Causeway.
