Athletes swim Lake Mary beneath the San Francisco Peaks
Super sprint, sprint, and Olympic races combine open-water swimming, high-altitude cycling, and running in one of Arizona’s classic destination triathlons.
Event details
Mountain Man’s July Triathlon begins at Lake Mary and unfolds beneath the San Francisco Peaks, offering super sprint, sprint, and Olympic distances that welcome a genuinely wide range of athletes. The long-running event pairs open-water swimming with pine-lined cycling and high-altitude running through Flagstaff’s notably cool summer climate, a welcome break from the desert heat below.
Families with athletes of different experience levels will appreciate the spread of distances available here: a first-time triathlete can tackle the super sprint while a more seasoned competitor takes on the full Olympic course, letting the whole group finish around the same morning rather than attending separate, unrelated races on entirely different weekends throughout the summer.
Early starts, packet pickup, altitude adjustment, and limited parking make a previous-night stay especially sensible for visiting families. Racers and supporters can add another day for Lake Mary paddling, forest trails, downtown Flagstaff exploring, or a Grand Canyon side trip once the morning’s racing has wrapped up for good, making the most of the region’s cool summer climate and abundant outdoor options.
