What is the Mousam Lake Region Youth Derby?
The Mousam Lake Region Youth Derby is an exciting annual fishing tournament held on Mousam Lake in Shapleigh, Maine, dedicated to young anglers under 16 years old. This vibrant event occurs on the third Saturday of July, bringing together families and fostering a love for fishing among the youth. In 2025, mark your calendars for July 19, when young fishing enthusiasts can join in the fun.

How Do You Get Involved?
Registration kicks off at 8:30 AM at Baxter’s Dock, conveniently located near the foot of the lake. The tournament itself runs from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, creating an exhilarating atmosphere for participants to engage in catch-and-release fishing focused on species like bass and panfish. As you cast your line, remember that you’re not just fishing; you’re competing for prizes in several categories, including the youngest angler to catch a fish, longest fish, and heaviest fish.

What Makes This Event Special?
Everyone who participates receives a thoughtful gift, ensuring a rewarding experience for all. This derby encourages camaraderie while promoting good fishing habits in a community-focused environment. Each year, the Mousam Lake Region Association, under the guidance of President Glenn Baxter, generously organizes this enjoyable experience, enriching the lives of the youth involved. We invite you to join us for a day filled with laughter, learning, and friendly competition against the backdrop of beautiful, crystal-clear waters.
