Event details

The M&T Bank Vermont City Two Mile is the official youth kickoff for Burlington’s marquee running weekend. You run a fast, flat two-mile loop at Waterfront Park along Lake Champlain, built specifically for ages 9 to 14. The start and finish sit close to the water, so your supporters can stay within easy sightlines while you race.

Expect a crisp, active waterfront morning with a professional setup: clear course marking, reliable timing, and an organized start at 8:30 AM. Spectators line the paved paths and grassy areas near the Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center, creating steady, encouraging noise without overwhelming the course. After you finish, everyone is recognized, and you can keep the day moving with lunch downtown or a walk along Church Street.

Plan to arrive by 7:45 AM for bib pickup and a proper warm-up. Registration is $33 and often sells out weeks ahead, so you will want to book early through the official RunVermont portal. Waterfront Park parking fills quickly; use the Pease Lot or downtown garages up the hill, then walk down. Bring layers for the runner since the lake breeze can run cool, and pack a reusable water bottle for the hydration stations near the start and finish. If you’re coming with kids, the setup works well for families, and younger siblings have room to play in the park while you watch the course.

For lodging, stay in the Burlington Waterfront or Downtown districts to keep the morning simple on foot. The South End is another smart base near the bike path, and we often see groups opt for rentals or lakefront homes through Lake.com for a long-weekend setup. In light rain, the race usually goes on, but delays are possible if lightning is nearby. Pets are generally discouraged on the race course for safety, and an awards ceremony follows soon after the final finisher.
