Start 2026 with a scenic downtown run
Ring in the new year with a 5K or 10K through downtown Asheville, then celebrate with brunch and Blue Ridge views.
Event details
The 12th annual New Year’s Resolution Run brings runners and walkers to downtown Asheville’s Pack Square on January 1st at 10 AM, following routes through the historic Montford neighborhood (5K) or the scenic Grove Park area (10K) before finishing on North Market Street’s cobblestone pavers, the only remaining historic brick block in the city. Presented by Hunter Subaru, the race attracts families, serious competitors chasing cash prizes (top three finishers in the 10K), and resolution-keepers of all fitness levels. Packet pickup runs December 31st from 1-3 PM at Hilton Garden Inn Asheville Downtown, with race-day registration opening at 8:30 AM for last-minute entries.
The 10K course winds past Art Deco storefronts, through tree-lined residential streets, and into Grove Park, delivering mountain views and neighborhood charm before the dramatic cobblestone finish. Water stations appear mid-route with Gatorade and snacks, and the finish line celebration includes complimentary non-alcoholic apple cider from Bold Rock Mills River. Age group awards span from 12-and-under through 80-plus categories, with an award ceremony at 11 AM. Downtown streets remain open to traffic, so runners share the road and sidewalks stay accessible for spectators.
