Event details

Open Swim at The Quarry at Carrigan Farms turns a private limestone mine in Mooresville into a standout swimming day trip starting Memorial Day weekend. Just north of Charlotte in the Lake Norman region, you get spring-fed, clear emerald water framed by sheer gray rock walls, with lifeguards actively monitoring the swim area. You can spend the session swimming in open water, jumping from designated granite ledges, or taking a turn on the rope swing.

You will enter during one of two daily sessions, a system that keeps the shoreline from feeling packed and gives you room to spread out between swims. On site, expect restrooms and a snack bar with simple seasonal options such as fresh fruit and burgers. The water stays noticeably cool even when the air turns hot, so plan for a refreshing, brisk swim rather than bath-warm lake temperatures.

Reservations are required, and popular dates often sell out well ahead of time, especially holiday weekends. Tickets are $23 per person and must be booked online before you arrive; plan to show up about 20 minutes early for check-in so you do not lose swim time. Bring a towel, high-SPF sunscreen, and sturdy water shoes for the rocky terrain; outside food and large coolers are typically limited, so confirm current rules before you pack. If you want access beyond the shallow entry, you should be ready for a brief swim test, and you must be able to swim or wear a provided life jacket.

If you are coming from out of town, Mooresville offers straightforward hotel options, and lakeside rentals around Davidson or Cornelius keep you close to the Lake Norman corridor. Weather is usually a go decision in light rain, but swimming pauses for lightning and you will be notified about rescheduling if a session is canceled by the farm. Pets are not allowed, and everyone entering the west entrance needs a paid reservation, whether you plan to swim or not.
