Event details

Kent Narrows occupies one of the Chesapeake’s most scenically active positions: a tidal passage connecting the Chester River to Eastern Bay where workboat traffic, pleasure craft, osprey, and great blue herons occupy the same narrow waterway with a practiced indifference to one another that visitors find consistently arresting. On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the Queen Anne’s County fireworks celebration at the Chesapeake Heritage and Visitors Center lawn begins at 5:30 p.m. and concludes with fireworks launched from Ferry Point Park at approximately 9 p.m. Admission is free. The event inaugurates the holiday week rather than closing it, which makes it an unusually useful first evening for travelers planning an extended Eastern Shore stay.

The Kent Narrows Waterfront
The boardwalk and waterfront areas surrounding the Visitors Center at 425 Piney Narrows Road reward arrival well before the evening program begins. The Kent Narrows Working Waterfront, a designated heritage area, preserves the visual and operational character of a commercial fishing community alongside the recreational boating infrastructure that has overlaid it across recent decades. The combination produces a shoreline atmosphere of genuine layered complexity rather than the gentrified maritime aesthetics that characterize much of the upper Bay’s developed waterfront.

Queen Anne’s County Beyond the Narrows
Tuckahoe State Park, about 15 miles east of Kent Narrows near Queen Anne, offers paddling, hiking, and fishing along the Tuckahoe Creek corridor in a forested landscape that provides compelling contrast to the open-Bay character of the Narrows celebration. The park’s canoe and kayak launch gives families with water-capable children a productive morning destination before returning to the waterfront for the evening program. The Chesapeake Exploration Center within the Visitors Center complex provides a well-organized introduction to the Bay’s ecology and cultural history suited to children in the 6-to-14 age range.

Where to Eat
Harris Crab House on Kent Narrows Way North has held its position over the water at Kent Narrows since 1981, and the steamed Maryland blue crabs served by the half or full bushel on brown paper-covered tables with wooden mallets constitute one of the most authentic Chesapeake dining experiences available anywhere on the Eastern Shore. The cream of crab soup, enriched with sherry and heavy cream, is the kitchen’s most requested opening course and justifies its own visit independent of the crabs that follow. Arrive by 5 p.m. to secure a waterfront table before the fireworks crowd fills the dining room.

Logistics
Free admission. Chesapeake Heritage and Visitors Center lawn, 425 Piney Narrows Road, Chester.
