Peoria riverfront stages one of Illinois biggest fireworks
Massive synchronized fireworks span the Illinois River between Peoria and East Peoria, drawing crowds for a destination-scale Fourth of July night.
Event details
Red White and BOOM! fills both banks of the Illinois River with music, food, and one of the state’s largest synchronized fireworks displays, drawing crowds to Peoria and East Peoria for a two-city Fourth of July celebration. The scale of the show, launched simultaneously across the river, sets it apart from single-venue fireworks displays elsewhere in Illinois.
Because the display can be viewed from either riverbank, families have real flexibility in choosing where to settle in, whether that means the Peoria side’s downtown energy or a quieter vantage point across the water in East Peoria. The size of the crowd this event draws each year makes it one of the state’s stronger Independence Day travel destinations, and the daytime hours before the show leave time for museums, parks, and riverfront restaurants on either side.
A room with a river view simplifies the evening considerably, letting families watch the display without navigating the post-show crowds that build quickly along the riverfront. For a Fourth of July trip built around genuine scale rather than a small local show, Red White and BOOM! is among the most ambitious fireworks programs the state has to offer.
