Event details

This Lake Huron beach community’s winter celebration, first held in 1976, returns January 16-17, 2026 according to Sauble Beach Chamber of Commerce President Rebekah Larter. The Friday-Saturday format centres on the Sauble Beach Community Centre, 30 Community Centre Drive, with activities radiating to Main Street and the ski trails.

Friday evening opens with the 6:00 PM Silent Auction, followed by the 7:00 PM Winterfest Parade traveling up Main Street from the Sauble Beach sign to the Community Centre. The 7:30 PM Christmas Tree Burning, a massive bonfire hosted by Sauble Fire Department, anchors the evening alongside a Youth, Teen Dance. Trivia Night at 8pm sells out quickly and requires pre-registration.

Saturday’s programming runs from the Lions Club Pancake Breakfast, 8am-11am, adults $8, children $4, gluten-free available, through the 8:00 PM Firefighters Dance, Hawaiian-themed, 19+, $20 advance tickets. The Diesel Dan Memorial Road Hockey Tournament begins at 10am in the Community Centre parking area.

Free Cross-Country Ski & Snowshoe Trail Trials, 11am-1pm, at Sauble Ski Club offer rental equipment and access to 18 kilometres of groomed ski trails and 14 kilometres of snowshoe trails. The Kids Zone, noon-3pm, features wagon rides, face painting, balloon art, crafts, and music.

Sauble Beach’s sandy expanse, one of the world’s longest freshwater beaches, remains accessible year-round on Lake Huron’s eastern shore where it approaches Georgian Bay. Winter conditions create what Explore the Bruce describes as “mile upon mile of windswept snow, ice and sand creating an ever-changing landscape, desolate, but beautiful.” Shore ice typically forms near the waterline while the main beach remains walkable. Access points include Main Street’s beach terminus, the foot of 6th Street, with parking, and Lakeshore Boulevard.

The Dunes Restaurant & Bar, 11 Southampton Parkway, operates year-round Thursday-Sunday with live music and Sunday brunch 10am-1pm. Gigi’s Italian offers pasta with house-made sauces off-season. Huron Feathers, a spiritual gift shop, has anchored the community for 50 years since approximately 1975.
